As you cannot fail to be aware, the new data protection legislation, GDPR, comes into effect on 25 May. As a data controller, the IED are responsible for data relating to existing and potential members, staff and those who make enquiries to the Institution.

We collect that data in order to provide you with services related to membership and registration, under the ‘legitimate interests’ basis of GDPR. We have updated our Privacy Policy accordingly.

Many of our members carry out volunteer work for us, which requires them to access data about applicants. We have drawn up a briefing document which you may find useful, if you do volunteer for us, please complete the acknowledgement link under section 11b).
