IED President elected Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering

Congratulations to IED President Pete Lomas on being elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. This is a well-earned recognition of the work that Pete has done and continues to do in promoting engineering to young people.

Pete Lomas says:

“I’m delighted and extremely honoured to have been accepted as a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. The work they do to promote engineering to the widest possible audience is paramount to our profession and the future benefits it can provide.

The academy’s CEO Dr Hayaatun Sillem sums it up perfectly: “Engineering is actually the route through which the potential that's unlocked by scientific discovery is converted into tangible benefits for individuals and society”

Encouraging young people to engage in engineering and signposting potential engineering careers has been a hugely important strand of my work with Raspberry Pi Foundation. As president of the iED and now as a fellow of the Royal Academy I’m excited at the opportunity to broaden the scope of this outreach to a wider and more diverse engineering community and to champion the importance of excellent engineering design!
